The successful applicant will provide visionary leadership and expertise for all functions related to quality and patient safety.  The role focuses on the relentless pursuit of quality through capacity building and quality improvement strategies and techniques, ensuring Waypoint continues to exemplify Accreditation Canada’s ongoing process of quality improvement and strengthening the patient safety culture. As an engaging and collaborative leader, the role provides support and leadership in the development and implementation of the annual Quality Improvement Plan and ensures alignment to the corporate Quality, Risk and Safety Plan, In addition to Waypoint being a Health Information Custodian, Waypoint is also a Tri hospital Meditech partner, this role involves system level collaborative leadership with respect to privacy as the Health Information Network Provider.
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Develops and implements strategic and operational plans, resultant goals and objectives and expected outcomes in accordance with the vision, mission, values and goals of the Hospital.
  • Plans, develops leads  the design and implementation of policies, operating plans and processes affecting quality, risk, legislative changes, privacy, satisfaction, and safety.
  • Provides leadership and direct oversight of the Patient Safety: Quality Improvement Coordinators, Privacy Officer, Patient Relations Officer, Infection, Prevention and Control team
  • Fosters an environment of accountability, teamwork and innovation by all members of the team
  • Leads, develops, implements and monitors annual department budgets consistent with the goals and objectives of the hospitals strategic and operational priorities
  • Plans, implements and evaluates the spread of continuous quality improvement and patient safety strategies supporting the Measuring and Monitoring of Safety framework from the Board to direct care staff.
  • Provides leadership and support to structures and processes within Waypoint that support quality of care, patient safety and risk management/mitigation and follow up including privacy and patient/family complaints
  • Works collaboratively with Waypoint’s Patient, Client, Family Counsel, Strategy office and Clinical Leadership to develop, implement and monitor the Annual Quality Improvement Plan
  • Provides leadership and mentorship to Leaders, programs and staff in their achievement of quality/patient safety targets and risk mitigation/follow-up
  • Provides guidance and support/recommendations to  Vice President of Quality, Professional Practice: CNE, CEO and other Senior Leaders as well as the Board’s Quality of Care committee, with matters related to quality, patient safety and experience and risk mitigation/management
 
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education, with a Master’s Degree in healthcare, quality improvement or equivalent related field preferred; Lean or Six Sigma certification also preferred
  • At least five years’ experience in a related role with an additional three years’ experience in a leadership capacity
  • Strong  knowledge and expertise in interpreting and applying legislation requirements related to risk, privacy, public hospitals, mental health and human rights
  • Expertise in quality improvement methodologies and analysis; knowledgeable about Accreditation Canada’s standards, Required Organizational Practices and Priority Processes
  • Experience with program planning and evaluation, and skilled at policy development and implementation, with strong working knowledge of legal, insurance and criminal proceedings
  • Accomplished organizational and time management skills to effectively handle a large number of issues simultaneously
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication and presentation skills to provide professional leadership/ consultation, and represent the hospital in public forums
  • Resilience to lead effectively, particularly under stressful conditions, ensuring compliance and corporate deadlines are met
  • Effectively build working relationships at all levels of the organization to support customer satisfaction and role as internal advisor
  • Proven ability to delegate work and provide opportunities for continuous improvement for the team
  • Successfully foster teamwork and cooperation while working effectively as a team member
  • Proven leadership through managing large groups or teams through significant change initiatives
  • Proficient in understanding a large range of software including Financial Management; Human Resources Management; Meditech; and Procurement software applications
  • Models and promotes core ethical practices and Waypoint Values with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preference for proficiency in French/English
