Position Profile:
 
As the government and Ministry progress towards the implementation of health system structural changes, the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) continues to focus efforts on supporting members and working with other health system stakeholders in the areas of integrated patient care, delivery of quality care, and value. Through these changes, the OHA recognizes the emphasis on the importance of evidence-based policy development, policy analyses, and strategic thinking.

The Position:
 
Reporting to the Chief System Planning and Performance Officer, the Research Advisor should be comfortable with the current health care policy landscape and be an experienced health services researcher. It is expected that you will lead the formulation of research questions, study design, and implementation of research projects, including the dissemination of results to the fast-pace environments of the hospital sector, the government, and the Ministry. The Research Advisor will help inform the OHA’s research, analysis, and policy development on integrated patient care, including but not limited to topics such as the Ontario Health Teams, hospital to home-care relationship, hospital to primary care relationship, and health human resources.
 
You will work closely with senior officials from hospitals, government, the Ministry and other Health Service Providers. Your responsibilities will include:
 
  • Leading idea generation, study design, implementation, and dissemination of research projects that will inform OHA strategic thinking
  • Researching, analyzing and developing policy related to integrated patient care and its various elements
  • Preparing presentations, policy papers, research papers, and submissions to the Ministry on integrated patient care and its various elements
  • Liaising and strengthening relationships with the Ministry and other Health Service Providers
  • Connecting with hospital executives and other health system stakeholders to understand current integration efforts  
  • Working with OHA’s Learning and Engagement division to help develop learning initiatives for members
  • Representing OHA in various internal and external committees
 
The Candidate:
 
The ideal candidate possesses a Doctorate in Health Services Research with experience in numerous methodological approaches (e.g., knowledge synthesis, program evaluation, semi-structured interviews and analyses) and knowledge of integrated patient care. Familiarity with the hospital sector including practices and procedures is considered an asset.
 
You have excellent interpersonal, facilitation and written and verbal communication skills; strong research, analytical and policy skills and proven project management experience.  Working in a team environment, the Research Advisor will be a highly motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, is able to build successful working relationships with a variety of stakeholders and enjoys combining research with practice.
